This weeks starts with a full moon, the Snow Moon or Quickening Moon. It’s a good way to start. If you are into Tarot, and have a basic understanding of the cards, you can take your knowledge to the next level with our Tarot Progressions Course. Full Quickening Moon (Full Snow Moon) 2:28 PM (CST) – Virgo 07° 24′

This February full moon is known by many different names; The Snow Moon, The Opening Bud Moon and the Hunger Moon, just to name a few. However, we’re quite fond of the title  “Quickening” Full Moon. The quickening is used to describe the first noticeable movements of an unborn child in their mothers womb. It marks a time when new life is beginning but hasn’t broken through the surface quite yet. Also, this leaves life open to so many wonderful opportunities  A journey has yet to begin. In each class, layers of meaning and understanding will be added to your core knowledge of the cards and spreads. This course is for anyone who has a basic knowledge of Tarot, either from Chuck’s Tarot Discovery course or through independent study. It is also for people who want to read for other, but aren’t comfortable or confident enough. This is the course which really blends knowledge of the Tarot with learning to use your intuition, and the practice you need to bring it all together in a positive and fun atmosphere. This week we’re also listing upcoming ancient Egyptian Festivals along with the the weekly readings, classes and events at the Eye. One of the festivals is specifically about the Eye of Horus! Old Craft discussions get into the tricky topic of idolatry, ATS Belly Dance starts a new 6 week intro series, Mercury goes Retrograde, Full Moon Ritual on Saturday (It’s a Full Snow Moon on February 25th), plus a new Goddess Class.

Egyptian Feast of “Chewing Onions for Bast.”

Yes, that’s right, in antiquity, sweet red onions were roasted and eaten in honor of Bast as Eye of Ra, in her name of Pakhet, “She who scratches.” They chose sweet onions because of it’s resemblance to the sun. In this festival, they also offered up beer, bread, fruit, flowers, incense, wine, geese and other birds to Bast. All of this was to encourage fertility, protection and creativity. In our day, we can honor this lovely Divine Feline by roasting a sweet red onion, or using any food that is special to you, as an offering. [Read more...]

Week of Feb 10th, 2013 – Year of the Water Snake Begins

We have a truly eventful week coming up at the Eye beginning on Sunday, which rings in the Chinese New Year and a New Moon. We have weekly events like our readers, Belly Dance, PAAgan AA; the monthly Thelema Class, an advance Rune class, the beginning of the Psychic Self four class course. As if that wasn’t enough, Sunday the 17th is Psychic Sunday.

Black Water Snake Year 2013Chinese New Year – the Year of the Water Snake

According to the Chinese Five Element Astrology Calendar, the Year of the Snake started on February 4th, although the Chinese New Year is Celebrated on the New Moon, which is February 10th. Each year is rich in correspondences with one of the five elements of Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. In 2013, the Element is Water, and the associated color is Black. So you may hear this year referred to as the Black Water Snake Year, or even the Female Black Water Snake Year, since the Chinese horoscope treats Snake is a Yin (female) animal.  But Snake is in the Fire group, so there is an interesting mix of good and bad, hot and cold, positive and negative because Water Snake is Fire under Water.
