5 Year Anniversary Celebration

October 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment

The little shop of Horus is turning 5 years old on Samhain (Halloween) this year, and we are celebrating with an anniversary party. There will be cake (of course) and other refreshments

Join owners Thraicie and Jane from 7-9 p.m. in the 2nd floor gallery at Eye of Horus, 2717 Lyndale Ave S. (map)

We know, it’s a busy night for celebrations and circles, but do make sure you stop in to get your door prize.  If you’re in costume, come early. The first five people in costume get a 5-year extraveganza door prize. Bring a friend, and tell everyone to stop in and say hi.

In addition to the party, Tarot Readings will be available in our new Twilight Room on the first floor, and of course, Reiki Healing with Maggie and Jaimie in the Sunset Room on the 2nd floor.

We are absolutely thrilled to have spent the past 5 years getting to know all of you, and learning so much along the way.  We are looking forward to see what wonders the next five years will bring.  See you all Friday!

10/29 Tarot Discovery Class: Intuition and Visualization

October 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Wednesday night from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Journey and Practice of the Tarot is more than just the symbols on the cards and the meaning of the placements. Develop your own sense of intuitiveness while using the tarot in plenty of in-class exercises and mini-readings. Some time will be spent in discussing the use of other popular Oracle decks, as well. Call 612-872-1292 to register. Cost is $25

About the Instructor

Chuck Boe, M.A., began his Tarot studies in 1981, has been reading at the Eye for over two years, and has been on our staff for over a year. In 2008 he received his Masters Degree in Human Development from Saint Mary’s University, with a focus on Goddess Studies and Tarot. Here’s what he says about the use of the Tarot:

“I believe that the Tarot is a tool for spiritual guidance. The answers that we receive from the tarot should be used to heighten our understanding of issues in our lives, not be seen as definitive messages about our future. I clearly stress to all clients that they have free will to make choices in their lives regardless of the reading.”

Eye of Horus Supports Environmental Amendment

October 26, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Normally, as a retail store, we aren’t very keen on sales tax increases. But we are not blind to the needs of the environment, and, just like our other environmental commitments of having a wind-powered store, carbon neutral website, and tree planting program, we think every little bit helps. So we are supporting this amendment because the need is so great.

The Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment will appear this way on your 2008 election ballot: Read more

July 29, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Workshop 1, Lost Secrets of Wicca
Thurs. 7/31 from 7:00 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. $12

Kenny Klein, Musician and Priest

Kenny Klein, Musician and Priest

As Wicca becomes more popular, and the coven structure is replaced by festivals, open circles and solitaries, many of the most magical and powerful traditions of the Craft are lost or forgotten. Kenny Klein explores some of the great secrets taught in the traditional coven structure, such as the Tenets of Faith, the Paths Of Power, the full Wiccan Rede (all 28 lines) , and older Pagan traditions. Eye of Horus is staying open late for this very special workshop. Kenny is a co-founder of the Blue Star tradition of Wicca, and has been a Wiccan priest and teacher for over twenty years.

Workshop 2, Fairy Lore in British Folk Music
Fri 8/1 from 7:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. $12

Fairy Lore in British Folk Music: Kenny Klein explores portrayals of Fairies, Werefoxes and Underworld creatures in traditional British Isles folk music. See how the creatures of Fairie were viewed by folklore from ancient times, to the views of Victorian balladeers. Learn about changelings, Selkies, and the Fairy Queen.

This Workshop will lead into a concert, and if you register for both ($15) in advance, you save a couple of bucks.  Call Eye of Horus 612-872-1292.

Kenny Klein in Concert Friday, August 1st
8:30 p.m.- $7 Cover - Eye of Horus Gallery

Eye of Horus is proud to present Kenny Klein — fiddler, guitarist, singer and all-around performer. He is a veteran of Renaissance Festivals, concert venues and smokey Country bars.

Well known for both serious songs and for his tongue-in-cheek, spry lyrics, Kenny performs such original songs as “Maria’s Not A Catholic Anymore, ” “Goth Girl Blues, ” and his show ender “What Do You Do With An Old Dead Gerbil?”.  His stories of renaissance festival life and of the streets of New York are seriously funny.

Originally from New York City, Kenny has traveled throughout the U.S.A. and Europe, playing and collecting fiddle tunes and songs. He has performed in legendary folk bars and venues including Folk City (NYC) and Speakeasy (NYC) , Ramblin Conrad’s (VA) , and Marie Poll’s (L.A.) . He’s played with country bands in Missouri, Celtic bands in Belgium, and he’s won fiddling championships in New York and Kansas. You can find out more about him and checkout his music at KennyKlein.NET

For more information about the workshops or concert call the Eye at 612-872-1292. Location for all events is:
2717 Lyndale Avenue South

Serious Fantasy Leads to Myth

June 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Eye of Horus will have a table at 4th Street Fantasy Convention this weekend. We aren’t listed on their website, but honest, we’ll be there in the dealer’s room selling wares for those who are delving into Myth.  That sort of thing happens a lot in fantasy conventions.

Of course, the store will be open it’s usual hours, as well. So don’t be shy about coming by and visiting the labyrinth or getting a tarot reading from Amanda.

Here’s the official blurb:

Fourth Street is a small convention for people who are serious about good fantasy and good books– serious about reading them, serious about writing them, serious about appreciating them in all their various forms. It’s also for people who are serious about having a good time. It’s a weekend of high-quality, high-intensity, mind-stretching fun, focused on books– there’s a single track of programming that is at the heart of it all. When everyone sees the same panels, it leads to fascinating conversations in the consuite, hotel bar, and corridors.

Typical panel topics range from the sublime to the frivolous, from the uses of symbolism in fantasy to the symbolism of shoes in fantasy, from subtext to developing taste. The always controversial Moral Fiction panel is a favorite. Come and argue for yourself!

Sorgitzak-Old Forest Craft Ritual

May 23, 2008 | 1 Comment

Sorgitzak - Old Forest CraftMuch has been remembered, and much has been recovered. Veronica Cummer’s new book Sorgitzak–Old Forest Craft has its source and its beginning in revealed knowledge through contact with and channeled messages from many of the Gods and Goddesses of the Sorgitza, through those who have come to be called the Fey, as well as other spirits and entities. This book is a culmination of over a decade of experience, questions, answers, and research. It provides a glimpse into the world of Witches long past. It provides the first steps in understanding once again what was lost, what was found, and what never truly left us. Find out more about the book>

Experience for Yourself

On June 7th, at 7 pm, join the author, Veronica Cummer, for an introduction to this traditional European path. She will come to sign books and answer questions. Following the signing, she will lead an OPEN RITUAL for all who wish to attend and experience firsthand, the Old Forest Craft.

Location: Eye of Horus, 2717 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55408
