Full Wolf Moon: Jan 26, 10:39 P.M. (CST) is at 7º Leo 24′
The January Full Moon is also known as North Moon, Old Moon, Ice Moon, Earth Renewal Moon, Turtle Clan Moon, White Road Moon, Cold Moon, Snow Goose People Moon, Birch Moon.
We prefer to call it the Wolf Moon here at the Eye. Wolf sings out in the night, calling to other wolves, defining territory, and celebrating the moon’s light; much like some of us do in circle. We also are more aware of the wolf, because Minnesota is its territory. Ely Minnesota is the home of the International Wolf Center.
With this full moon, the wildness abounds. The wolf howls, but the lion roars.
This full moon is in Leo, the lion’s sign, which means the sun is in Aquarius.
Aquarius is about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. When we tune in to the universe, and work with others, we become not just our own limited ego, but a force which can shape communities, and shift the direction we are going, from a downward spiral more up and out towards our ideals. Leo is about self-empowerment through creative leadership. It is a good time to call on Sekhmet, the Lion-Headed Goddess of Egypt. Her name is derived from the Egyptian word “Sekhem” (which means “power” or “might”). Sekhmet was known as both a warrior goddess and a patron of healers, as both a creative and destructive force; but above all, she is the protector of Ma’at (balance or justice) and referred to as “The One Who Loves Ma’at and Who Detests Evil.” So if your cause is to help bring things into balance, you can call on her to protect your endeavor. Leo energy does not benefit a back-seat driver, but gives strength to a true leader who steps out in front, being that quiet example which inspires others to make their own changes.
Just one step out of your comfort zone, with a clear vision of things to come, can shape your whole year.
You know people who have dared and stepped out and become your inspiration. Your vision can be small things or large. Remember that the smallest nut can grow into a great tree, exploding with life and shelter for others. With the Sun in Aquarius, and the full moon shining through all your pockets of shadow, meditate and look for what is revealed, even if it seems a little nutty.
What gifts do you set aside, what enthusiasms do you dampen, what would make you leap out of bed to start a new day? What can you do for family, friends and community? These are world-changing times, and the world changes one life at a time. The only world you can really change is your own. This is where Leo comes in. Make that simple change or that great one, and see where it leads. Look at other leaders and mentors, to see how they blaze paths and invite others.
As a caution, be aware this is also a time of obstacles and the occasional overreaching misstep. The start of any journey worth taking often has challenges and unforeseen circumstances we must deal with. But the key is to know that your vision is true. Don’t worry about the steps not being what you expected. Think about a life or career that is most authentic for you. We too often ignore our own individual, quirky gifts, when that is exactly what we should put forward. Freedom is an Aquarian touchstone. Just remember to include the community aspect for a full Aquarian boost.
Leos love celebrations, so on the full moon, be sure to kick up your heals and have some serious fun.
