Wendy Rule Returns (updated)

Wendy Rule Returns (updated)

On July 5th, Australian Wendy Rule and Minnesota Nordic Roots performer Kari Tauring are re-united in this double-concert at Patrick’s Cabaret.

UPDATE. For those of you who think this is just your run-of-the mill concert, check out this video featuring Wendy calling the quarters and Kari playing her Stav in the background. This was from a prior Minneapolis visit. This is so much more than performance. It is ritual.

Both are modern mystics who draw on ancient myth to lead their audiences on sonic trip to the otherworld, invoking nature, fairies and dieties, as well as just providing great music. As a bonus, Wendy is offering her Ritual Music Meditation Workshop on the full moon before the concert.

Presented by Eye of Horus Metaphysical, this intimate double-concert event at 120 seat Patrick’s Cabaret features two extraordinary performers whose music has been called otherworldly and transcendent.

What: Concert at Patrick’s Cabaret
When: Thursday, July 5th 7:30-10:00pm
Where: Patrick’s Cabaret

Open Streets II: Return of the Gorilla Yogis

Open Streets II: Return of the Gorilla Yogis

On Sunday, June 10th 2012 Lyndale Avenue will be closed to car traffic for Open Streets. The Gorilla Yogis will be back, as well, doing yoga to do good. It’s a Karma thing. Read on for details.

What is Open Streets? Well, by opening up the streets for people to walk, bike, run and skate for a day, we get an opportunity to experience our city in a whole new way.

What: Open Streets Minneapolis (visit site)
Who: An initiative of the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition
When: June 10th, 2012, 10:00am – 4:00pm
Where: Lyndale Ave S from 22nd St to 42nd St

Here’s the idea behind it: In the past the street was the hub of the community—it was a place to shop, mingle, gossip, and play. Open Streets gives this back while promoting healthy activity and sustainable transportation. This is a great opportunity for everyone young and old to be active while engaging with neighbors and local businesses.  It’s kinda new-old-timey.

Don’t be afraid to come out to Eye of Horus next Sunday, just come on bike, or plan on a hike. We’ll be here and open our regular hours, 11-7pm.

Return of the Gorilla Yogis

Last year was the first Open Streets. We thought is was a cool idea, getting people up and about and socializing, even the mayor was cycling by. Then we noticed a surprising thing.  People were setting up yoga mats in front of our store.

Sharon Knight and Winter

Sharon Knight and Winter

San Francisco songstress Sharon Knight is a Celtic folk singer in leather armbands. She plays octave mandolin as if it were an electric guitar and sings as though she means to summon a storm. Together with longtime collaborator Winter, she tours nationally several months out of the year.

Preferring to stray from tradition, Sharon and Winter have developed their own Celtic-hybrid style. Her penchant for combining fierce and gutsy bravado with ethereal beauty, a hearty dose of fantastical lyrics, and an obvious love of storytelling has inspired her own musical style, “Neofolk Romantique”.  This often sounds less Celtic and more “Folktales that ran away with the Faeries at the turn of the century and took cover in an old trunk bound for the circus, which was then commandeered by pirates.” This suits them fine.
