Morningstar Frankincense, Myrrh and Sage

Morningstar Frankincense, Myrrh and Sage

Japanese Incense is famous for its clean burning woods and delicate floral scents. The stick incense from Japan is a centuries old tradition with roots in the Shinto and Buddhist rituals and beliefs. Each stick is solid incense. There is no wood core.
Nippon Kodo has just added three new scents to their morning star line of incenses to add the sacred scents of middle east and the americas to their line of single note incenses.
  1. Frankincense – also known as “Frank Incense” or True Incense, this is a famous ingredient in church blends. In ancient times, it was used as currency in some areas, because it was so prized. Modern research has shown that burning frankincense can affect our moods, lifting our spirits when down. No wonder it is used in worship. It is truly enlightening.
  2. Myrrh – Burned in Indian temples and churches around the world, Myrrh is a rich and cleansing scent used for purifying. Researchers are discovering that Myrrh smoke has physical anti-bacterial properties, as well. Go figure. Again, the ancients knew what they were doing.
  3. Sage – Used for centuries in America for spiritual cleansing in a smudging ceremony, sage is a powerful plant ally. When you want to smudge a small space or just want a lighter scent for your ritual, this little stick will do the trick nicely.
Best of all, all three are in stock now, at the Eye and will be on our feature table for the next week or so. So stop in or buy online. With 50 sticks in a box (that’s right it’s not a typo), morning star Japanese Incense is an incredible value. Each stick is small, but it’s 100% incense, so you get pure scent.

Sage Smudging is one of the most traditional and common ways to clear and bless a space or an object. Smudging is simple and direct: Just light the sage bundle, blow it out so it smolders, and walk around the room or house, fanning the smoke. This works for most home clearing needs.

A New Smudging Alternative

Smokeless Smudge SpraySometimes people ask if there is an alternative, either because they do not like the scent or because they don’t like smoke or because they’ve tried smudging with sage and it isn’t as effective in their space. Of course, we offer smokeless smudge spray for those who can’t do a smokey smudge. Our spray is a blend of sage, cedar and sweetgrass oils to provide energy clearing in places where smoke can’t go.

Palo Santo Smudge StickPalo Santo (Holy Wood) is what we have traditionally offered as an alternative traditional smoke. Palo Santo wood is the blessing wood traditionally used in South American Native Cultures.

Now we add a third option, Sahumerio, which includes Palo Santo as its main ingredient. It also adds more herbs in a mix of plants which is used in Peru by Shamans for house clearings. It is a powerful purifying blend drawing from multiple cultures. We’ll detail the historical use of each ingredient here, in case you want to mix your own.

This is a blend of herbs and woods which can be burned on a small charcoal tablet in a heat safe dish and used to smudge an area, person or an object.

What is Sahumerio?

Sahumerio Shaman Incense Blend: Palo Santo, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Alucema (Lavender) and Myrrh

Sahumerio Blend

Sahumerio literally means perfuming with incense. This Sahumerio mixture is the combination of Palo Santo, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Alucema (Lavender) and Myrrh. This incense mix is traditionally used by shamans in Peru to do ceremonies for purify houses and take out the bad energy. Creates a protective boundary, as well. [Read more…]

Dryad Design – Soul Work

Dryad Design Online ShoppeMany stores carry different lines, but since we are a store which not only specializes in earth-based spirituality and conscious living.  We found not only the statues and symbolic jewelry of Dryad Design a unique fit, but the core work of artist Paul Borda is truly inspired. He calls it his “soul work.”  We get it, and are thrilled to be able to share these pieces with you, both in the store and in our online Dryad Design Shoppe.

All of  the Dryad Design pieces are original, copyrighted works by Paul Borda, filled with layers of meaning derived from years of research. The statues and jewelry include God and Goddess imagery from Celtic, Norse, Russian and Sumerian Mythology. The statues are resin reproductions, but because many of the originals are wood you can see the chisel marks and the grain of the wood in many of the castings. Paul is primarily a wood carver, but some of the statues were actually carved in stone.

Our hope is to support and inspire earth based spirituality.

Hammer of Thor - Mjolnir

Hammer of Thor - Mjolnir

We also love the new pieces which have just come out this fall.  The real showcase piece is Mjölnir, the Hammer of Thor.

Thor’s Hammer

When Mjölnir strikes, you hear the sound of thunder. It is said to be capable of leveling mountains and slaying any foe, yet it can heal as well as harm. By waving the hammer over the slain, Thor could raise the dead.[button link=”” color=”silver”] View Larger Image or Buy Online[/button]

Incredibly detailed, this hammer is adorned with Oseberg style Viking carving, also depicts Thor’s mythical battle with Jörmungandr, the world serpent. The runes around the edge list the Nine Noble Virtues of modern Asatru: Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality, Self Reliance, Industriousness and Perseverance.

To hang this hammer on your wall is to invoke the protective and healing power of Thor.

The imagery for all of Paul’s work begins with ritual and meditation and is followed by extensive research. Paul feels the image is a gift from the Gods and has an etheric life of its own.  The average statue takes 300-500 hours of carving time to complete and that is not counting the design and research! Let’s take a look at the new Frigga statue as an example.

Frigga, Odin’s wife… the Norse All Mother.

Frigga Statue - Front Image

Frigga is depicted holding her son, Baldur - The Champion of Love, Goodness, Innocence and Forgiveness, who was loved by all and known for his beauty.

Frigga Statue - View of the Back

The back of the Frigga Statue depicts the entrance to the realm of Fensalir, which is spelled in runes above the door, where she resides as Mistress of Home & Family.

Frigga is a member of the Aesir House of the Gods in the Norse Pantheon – which roughly translates to “from the east.” She maintains serenity in the midst of the myriad of tasks inherent to Motherhood and Marriage.

Not only does the carving use traditional norse motifs, but runes spelling different attributes are woven in the patterns on the side of the base. Even the clothing and jewelry is based on traditional Scandinavian dress.

Other new pieces include a new, larger Seated Thor Statue and a mini Wheel of the Year plaque.

We are devoted to the Pagan religion and see our work as revitalizing the presence of the Goddess in our society. For those who are not Pagan, our pieces often connect them with their spirituality, heritage or ancestors. Each of our pieces are consecrated in circle and dedicated to the service of the divine. Several designs have a portion of their price donated to charitable organization, as our way of trying to give back. We are thankful to the community of Pagans across the country that has supported our efforts.
