The Eye of Horus Mythic Art Gallery presents Mythos, a solo show of the works of Niamh O’Connor. The show was originally scheduled to run from May 10th through July 31st, but due to popular demand, has been extended through September 7th. The reception featured the only full viewing of one of the artifacts, The Tome of the Nephilim – 8.5” x 16”, metal and leather bound book is in a glass case on the store floor, but the rest of the 20-some pieces are in the 2nd floor gallery.
In addition to the framed pieces, fine art prints are also for sale, starting at $29.00 for individual Tarot images. Prints are also available as part of the Mythos show.
Although Mythos primarily showcases images, Niamh O’Connor has also explored the Nephilim theme using masks, book art, and even a cloak (see images below). Her paintings range from an intriguing series on the Nephilim; to twelve of the Major Arcana from the Tarot; plus an additional two pieces, one of The Morrigan (Mhór Ríoghain) crouched on the helmet of a warrior, which is available as a magnificent 36” x 19” canvas print. Finally, there is the Croatoan, dealing with the legend of the disappearance of the Roanoak colony, an image of the captain with hat over heart, tree with hands and “croatoan” carved into base.
The Nephilim Series
Artist Niamh O’Connor delves into the mythos of the Nephilim, or half-man half-angel hybrids, and draws the connection to Jung’s archetypes. The display features framed 13″ x 19″ digital prints on watercolor paper, as well as the three artifacts. Six images of the Nephilim Series, including the artifacts, are featured below, plus three from the rest of the show.
