Harrow of the Week: The Dance

Harrow of the Week: The Dance

The dance of life.

This week’s Harrow card, The Dance, is a whirl of movement and color. The card features a brightly-clad dancer in mid-spin, her hair and scarves twirling with her. She holds an elaborate staff in one hand, while the other makes a gesture that could be a mystic symbol. Surrounding her are three glowing spheres that follow her movements.

The Dance is a card of movement that is directed and purposeful. It belongs to the suit of Keys, which corresponds with Dexterity, the ability that governs agility, flexibility, and our ability to react. This is tempered by the fact that the card is aligned Lawful Good, the alignment of community and harmony, where the needs of the many are greater than the needs of the few. In this light, we can see The Dance as a card of universal harmony in movement. For The Dance to succeed, every individual dancer must do their part and step their steps.

While some may think this is a pretty way of advocating for conformity and giving up our individual needs or wants, it is really a reminder to be aware of the movements of those around us. The music of The Dance is the Music of the Spheres, the invisible universal harmony that calls to everyone and dictates The Dance’s steps. If even one dancer missteps, whether deliberately or not, it has the potential to throw the entirety of The Dance out of rhythm. The Dance is not a call for everybody to follow the same steps but to follow the steps that the music calls us to with truth and confidence while also allowing others to do the same.

To put it more simply, The Dance is a reminder that everything we do affects everything else. The Dance calls us to do our own dance but to also respect the dances of others and to exist with others in harmony. When every person can dance as their heart allows, it opens the door to greater understanding of others and our place in the grander scheme of things. The Dance calls everyone to follow the music in their own way for the benefit of all. You can still dance like nobody’s watching, but you also need to make sure everybody else can do that, too.

Of all the stones, celestite (also known as celestine) is one of the best aids to connecting to the mysterious Music of the Spheres and to the higher consciousness that helps us to figure out our place in The Dance. It’s energy is gentle but strong, angelic but bold, and it is an excellent way to tune in to the universe’s song. Ametrine can also be a great aid to tap into the energy of The Dance, as it can help us connect with divine guidance while also helping us overcome fear that might cause us to misstep. It is a stone of both creativity and awareness, and it helps to harness both so that our creative energies can be used for the benefit of all.

Bright blessings, and may the cards be in your favor.

The Harrow deck is part of the Pathfinder RPG and is a fun alternative to a traditional tarot deck both for those familiar with the game, or those looking for a different framework for divination.
