2013 Moon Phases

2013 Moon Phases

We’ve put together this 2013 moon phase reference because most of the charts out there offer some, but not all of this information around the phase of the moon, and they are usually not in Central Time, or aren’t adjusted for Daylight Savings. The moon names are those most commonly attributed, but different cultures do have different names. This is just a starting point to help you get attuned to the cycles of the moon and stars.

Full Wolf Moon – January 26, 2013

Full Wolf Moon: Jan 26, 10:39 P.M. (CST) is at 7º Leo 24′

This is for the 2013 Full Wolf Moon. For the 2016 Full Wolf Moon, click here!

Full Wolf Moon in Leo

It’s a Wild Leo Full Wolf Moon

The January Full Moon is also known as North Moon, Old Moon, Ice Moon, Earth Renewal Moon, Turtle Clan Moon, White Road Moon, Cold Moon, Snow Goose People Moon, Birch Moon.

We prefer to call it the Wolf Moon here at the Eye. Wolf sings out in the night, calling to other wolves, defining territory, and celebrating the moon’s light; much like some of us do in circle. We also are more aware of the wolf, because Minnesota is its territory. Ely Minnesota is the home of the International Wolf Center.

With this full moon, the wildness abounds. The wolf howls, but the lion roars.

This full moon is in Leo, the lion’s sign, which means the sun is in Aquarius.

Aquarius is about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. When we tune in to the universe, and work with others, we become not just our own limited ego, but a force which can shape communities, and shift the direction we are going, from a downward spiral more up and out towards our ideals. Leo is about self-empowerment through creative leadership. It is a good time to call on Sekhmet, the Lion-Headed Goddess of Egypt. Her name is derived from the Egyptian word “Sekhem” (which means “power” or “might”).  Sekhmet was known as both a warrior goddess and a patron of healers, as both a creative and destructive force; but above all, she is the protector of Ma’at (balance or justice) and referred to as “The One Who Loves Ma’at and Who Detests Evil.” So if your cause is to help bring things into balance, you can call on her to protect your endeavor. Leo energy does not benefit a back-seat driver, but gives strength to a true leader who steps out in front, being that quiet example which inspires others to make their own changes.

Just one step out of your comfort zone, with a clear vision of things to come, can shape your whole year.

You know people who have dared and stepped out and become your inspiration. Your vision can be small things or large. Remember that the smallest nut can grow into a great tree, exploding with life and shelter for others. With the Sun in Aquarius, and the full moon shining through all your pockets of shadow, meditate and look for what is revealed, even if it seems a little nutty.

What gifts do you set aside, what enthusiasms do you dampen, what would make you leap out of bed to start a new day? What can you do for family, friends and community?  These are world-changing times, and the world changes one life at a time. The only world you can really change is your own. This is where Leo comes in. Make that simple change or that great one, and see where it leads. Look at other leaders and mentors, to see how they blaze paths and invite others.

As a caution, be aware this is also a time of obstacles and the occasional overreaching misstep. The start of any journey worth taking often has challenges and unforeseen circumstances we must deal with.  But the key is to know that your vision is true. Don’t worry about the steps not being what you expected. Think about a life or career that is most authentic for you. We too often ignore our own individual, quirky gifts, when that is exactly what we should put forward. Freedom is an Aquarian touchstone. Just remember to include the community aspect for a full Aquarian boost.

January Full Moon Ritual

Full Moon Ritual & Potluck

Leos love celebrations, so on the full moon, be sure to kick up your heals and have some serious fun.

Besides, this full moon is on a Saturday Night! Our Lady of Celestial Fire is hosting an open full moon circle at the Eye, but if that’s not your style, definitely plan a night out or in with friends. The full moon on the 26th kicks off a three-day flow of energies and revelations as the Sun trines Jupiter and Uranus in a focusing triangle.  This dynamo of creative energy reflects off the Leo moon to poor down on us all. Be open to receive insight and inspiration, pay attention to your dreams, and keep your aura tuned and ready for synchronicity and chance encounters.

Finally, be ready for the wonders to poor forth until Jupiter stations Direct on the 30th after being retrograde since early October. You may notice a lull in the energy and momentum, but just sit back and wait a minute. The scene is changing and the stage is getting set for a new act as the Moon enters Virgo on the 28th Monday evening. Then it’s time to get organized and get going on all the practical details of your grand plan, and you can move forward after getting all charged up by this wild Leo Full Wolf Moon.

“And then there are the times when the wolves are silent and the moon is howling.”— George Carlin

Harvest Moon – Sept 29th Full Moon in Aries

Aries Full Harvest MoonSeptember 29: Full Moon, 10:19 pm, 7° Aries

September 2012 is the Harvest Moon, and is also known as the Full Corn Moon.

The Harvest Moon isn’t always in September, since it is the full Moon nearest the autumnal equinox.  In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in September, but in some years it occurs in October. It can occur in September or October and is bright enough to allow finishing all the harvest chores.

The Runic Calendar of Nordic traditions, (which is governed by half months rather than full months), divides this moon of the year by Gyfu (Gift) from September 28th through October 12th. Gyfu is also the rune of Odin, the all-father.

Aries is the sign of the Ram, a Masculine sign: outwardly expressive or extroverted. It’s element is Fire, which brings with it high energy, warmth, vision and intuition. Not only active, but a bit pushy and impulsive, and sometimes thoughtless as the Ram runs through any obstacles in its path. Some careful planning before entering Aries Moon is a good idea, to ensure you get the emotional push without running anyone over.

But this isn’t just any Aries full moon. It will be conjunct with Uranus which is a planet of change. Joined with the ram, think sudden, shocking or surprising transformation. Think, instead of just Aries fire, more of a spark or even explosion. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Since you know what’s coming, you can be ready to shift some boulders which have been in your way. With preperation and focus it is a good time for self-transformation, so use that energy to your benefit!

“Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.”
Eckhart Tolle

“All great changes are preceded by chaos.” -Deepak Chopra

“Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.” –Jim Rohn
