Aquarius Full Moon & Sturgeon Moon

Aquarius Full Moon & Sturgeon Moon

Full Sturgeon Moon: Aug 20, 8:45 P.M. (CST) is at 28° Aquarius 01′

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, we call this the Sturgeon Moon because Native American tribes knew that the sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this full Moon. Some called it the Green Corn Moon or the Grain Moon. The August Full Moon is also known as the Lightening Moon by some, and by others, it is the Barley moon, symbolized by Persephone, who carries a sheaf of barley as a symbol of the harvest.  The sultry hazes of August often give the moon a reddish appearance, prompting some Native American tribes to dub it the Red Moon.

Although it may look hazy red, we know this Sturgeon Moon is Blue.

True Blue Moon

August brings the second Full Moon in Aquarius this year.  Two full moons in the same sign is sort of the zodiacal equivalent of a Blue Moon.  Actually, it is a TRUE BLUE MOON. That is, the August Full Moon is the third full moon in the summer season which has four full moons in 2013. This is the original, correct definition of a Blue Moon. The definition about the second full moon in a month is a more recent simplified usage for those who don’t pay as much attention to seasons and moons. July’s Full Moon was fresh on the cusp, just entering Aquarius.  A month later, we are now on the exiting cusp of Aquarius, about to leave that sign.

Aquarius Full Moon Astrology

The energies of this sign are at their most mature, now.  We will be feeling a deep appreciation for diversity.  A strong sense that our differences are what make us strong.  Like a fine chocolate with suitably complex notes of flavor, rather than simply “sweet”.

The Full Moon shines with the radiance of Leo through Aquarius, to reflect the bright light of social awareness.  We will notice more acceptance of the non-traditional in the world around us,  and welcome it into our lives.  Those who might usually be found on the fringe of society may now be considered exotic or even fashionable.  Things that might otherwise seem weird, are thoroughly exciting and interesting.

These next few days are a fantastic time to explore different cultures & traditions, and partake of all the flavors of life that the world has to offer.  Celebrate diversity!

Jupiter is still in the sign of Cancer.  It is not one of the faster-moving planets, so it takes it time as it passes through each sign, fully savoring the experience.  We will enjoy the energy of a Cancerian Jupiter for roughly one year (until July 2014).  The focus is on family, community, and social ties.  Our values regarding these group loyalties will be explored & expressed as we move through this time.

This Cancerian Jupiter is square Uranus in Aries, and opposite Pluto in Capricorn, for most of the month.  Now that complicates things!  While Jupiter is exploring our social loyalties, Uranus fiercely wants us to appreciate our freedom, and Pluto pushes to examine our relationship with responsibility & power.  This is a very complicated square-dance, and the dance floor is crowded.  We’ll have to step carefully.

True Blue Full Moon Actions

The goal is to find your individual place within the group.  What is your contribution?  How does your uniqueness expand the whole?  Can you express your own style without tripping up anyone else?  And what special responsibilities come with your individual powers/strengths? Answer these questions, celebrate your gifts, and try something new and true-to-yourself blue…

Full Buck Moon – July 22, 2013

Full Buck Moon – July 22, 2013

Full Buck Moon: Jul 22, 1:16 P.M. (CST) is at 0º Aquarius 06′

Aquarius Full MoonJuly is normally the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, for the reason that thunderstorms are most frequent during this time. Other names for this month’s Moon is the Full Hay Moon, in India, the July full moon is known as Guru Purnima and the Buddhist Sinhala call it Esala Poya. In China, it is the Hungry Ghost Moon. The Celts called it the Claiming Moon, some Neo Pagans call it the Rose Moon, and Wiccans the Mead moon.

On the Cusp

This FullMoon is on the cusp of Aquarius.  This means that the Moon has just moved into Aquarius, from Capricorn.  Also, the Sun has just entered Leo, so the energy right now is very crisp & new.  Mercury has finally gone direct (after being retrograde for several weeks), and the Sun & Moon are both settling into new signs.  So be ready for a refreshing change of pace.

From the Fringe

The Full Moon pulls the energy of Leo through Aquarius, to bring us a bright ray of social consciousness.  We will notice more acceptance of the non-traditional,  and even feel drawn to it.  Those who may be considered on the fringe of society may attract the attention they need by acting out.  So if that’s you, try not to go overboard.  Anything you can do to feel more secure & calm will help interactions go more smoothly.  Alienating others can be kinda fun, but it doesn’t really benefit in the long run.

If you’re the recipient of outre behavior, try to be patient & accepting.  There may be a healing process in progress.

All of us should make a point of enjoying the ride.  This is a fantastic time to explore different cultures & traditions, and partake of all the flavors of life that the world has to offer.  Celebrate diversity!

Walk in Beauty

Our Leo Sun is also semisexile Venus in Virgo.  Semisextile is generally considered to be a “minor” aspect, but the orb is very tight at this point, giving it a much stronger influence.  This combination is all about taste, style, diplomacy, and charm.  It should help us to express our own uniqueness in a manner that others can actually appreciate.  It should also add to our ability to enjoy the beauty of each other’s differences.

This is a fantastic time for any FengShui or organizational/placement changes you may have been thinking about.  Beauty through organization… its all about the presentation.

May Full Flower Moon in Sagittarius

We welcome the flowers and the Moon this May.  The Moon will be Full on Friday, May 24th at 11:26 PM Central at  04° 08′ Sagittarius

Full Flower MoonThe May moon is usually known as the Flower Moon, but it is also called the Milk Moon, in China it is the Dragon Moon, in Medieval England it was the Hare Moon, and some pagans call it the Grass Moon.  Many other tribes and places had many other names, but the current most common reference in America is the Full Flower Moon.

Our ideals and concerns will be blooming this Full Flower Moon

The Sun in Gemini heightens our ability to communicate with others, but the Moon, opposite in Sagittarius, heightens our ability to distort their reactions.  The sun and moon are each square neptune right now, as well. The Square is a 45° angle, which creates some difficulty.

Since Neptune is in Pisces (the Great Counsellor), we get a wealth of water which is tough to grab hold of or pin down, and results in a wishy washy soup of best intentions. Expect to experience a vague sense of concern toward unrealistic and/or unattainable ideals. This dynamic trio of Neptune square the Sun and Moon will [Read more…]
