Full Moon in Pisces: Cooling Down the Fires

Full Moon in Pisces: Cooling Down the Fires

The cosmos cools down into the earth element, as the last days of summer are relished with the sweet Pisces full moon opposing sun in precise Virgo on August 26. A grand earth trine forms a kite with the Pisces moon, yielding a rich time to tune into imaginative powers and plan to manifest long lost dreams. The Pisces moon is quite the contradiction to the tone earlier in the summer.

Mercury retrograded in Leo from July 26-August 19, coupled with a volcanic Uranus-Mars square and three eclipses. These ingredients represented a dichotomy of forces, holding still and running in place while imploding and exploding. This blast of fire and volatility set off by the eclipses July 27 and August 11 burned away the inessentials until a pure essence revealed itself, as in the alchemical process of calcination. It is, in essence, a purification with fire.

Jupiter nears the end of its dance in Scorpio, squaring off with Mercury in Leo and permeating the atmosphere with a golden decadence, though excessiveness could be a side effect. The tide turns poignantly August 28 when Mars goes direct in Capricorn, timing closely with the full moon August 26. The summer was flavored with complexity, and when both Mercury and Mars are direct, the messages harvested from this summer are ready for translation to yield practical, concrete solutions.

July Full Moon in Aquarius: Looking Back, Moving Forward

July Full Moon in Aquarius: Looking Back, Moving Forward

By Thraicie Hawkner

This month’s Full Moon on July 27th involves the Moon and Mars in Aquarius, both opposite the Sun in Leo. This is a time of paradox. As we become increasingly intolerant of intolerance, this retrograde Mars inspires us to look to the past for solutions. What has worked before? What has failed in similar situations?

At the same time, the Sun in Leo shines light on the future. How can we make tomorrow truly radiant, with changes started today? The full scope of the time-line (past, present, future) will inspire truly visionary solutions to social injustices. Of course this energy can be applied on a broad scale, to cultural changes that will benefit us all.

But don’t be shy about applying that same problem-solving process to your personal life. This is the time to spot patterns, and access appropriate solutions. What tactics have worked well in your own past? Or historically, for other people? How can you incorporate those same techniques into your new plan of action?

If you need a little extra insight or advice about how to best utilize this energy, give the Modern Spellcasters’ Tarot a try. It’s blend of ancient archetypes and modern sensibilities is perfect for this full moon. For further exploration of the themes this full moon embodies, we’d suggest Michael Pollan’s new book on consciousness and transcendence, How To Change Your Mind.

If you’re the more practical sort, consider carrying a piece of snowflake obsidian with you. A stone of purity and balance, it helps us to examine old thought patterns and cast off those that don’t benefit us. For the home and altar, there’s always Coventry Creations’ Needed Changes candle. A warm mix of sandalwood and ginger, it’s designed to help you move on and move forward.

July New Moon in Cancer: Reaching Out

July New Moon in Cancer: Reaching Out

New Moon in Cancer: exact at 9:48pm, Thursday 7/12th.

Our sense of belonging becomes top priority during this New Moon. Our loyalty to family (or chosen family) will be the driving force behind every decision we make during this time. Our ability to read other people’s needs will be nearly as strong as our desire to provide for those needs. Intuitive talents will be at a peak.

The only complication is that this New Moon is in opposition to Pluto. This can easily put people into a defensive mode if they feel any sense of danger of neglect. This defensiveness is more likely to manifest as a withdrawing behavior rather than an aggressive lashing-out. It is a good time to reach out to others if you notice that they are feeling down or seem to be isolating themselves. Make sure everyone feels cared for.

And speaking of Pluto…Pluto is currently retrograde in the sign Capricorn. Pluto was last in this sign from 1762 – 1779 (American and French revolutions, etc.), and will now be in this Capricorn from 2009 – 2024. This period promises deep societal changes and new structural foundations. We are likely to see new business strategies, economic views, and governmental shifts. Any form of authority will be reassessed for its effectiveness and appropriateness. But this process might seem even rockier than necessary from April 22nd – September 30th, while Pluto is retrograde. Hang on, everybody! Take good care of one another.
